Reconciling Ministries Community within Asbury UMC
We, the Reconciling Ministries Community, declare our members to be an Open and Affirming Community within Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. In the spirit of John Wesley, our fellowship is open to all followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ who are committed to gaining wisdom from scripture, tradition, reason, and experience. We affirm and celebrate that all people are created in God’s image and each person has sacred worth. We value Christ’s inclusive love and embrace the gift of diversity in our world. We proclaim this statement of welcome to all, particularly to those who have known the pain of exclusion or discrimination by the church, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons We invite other like-minded members of Asbury to join our ministry of reconciliation.
Our faith inspires us to be part of an intentional ministry with all people, especially those who have not always been accepted because of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We acknowledge our differences and seek not to erase them, but to use them as a source of strength and power as we humbly serve our God and journey together toward greater understanding, mutual respect, and love for each other.
“All this is from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:18 (NIV)
