Regional Gatherings Toolkits and Information
Organize a local gathering to bring together young adults for full inclusion of all people!

As a grassroots social movement, MOSAIC works through local networks and leaders.  While some of our work gets done in the national office or on cross-country phone calls, our best achievements occur daily in campus ministries, schools and churches across the country: progressive United Methodist young people speak up for full inclusion and justice.  MOSAIC connects these young people in supportive communities to develop new leaders and encourage new competencies. Regional gatherings will reduce isolation of these powerful young adults.  Gatherings will take place in cities, college towns, rural villages.  Every single annual conference has reconciling young people,  and regional gatherings will become the core of their national-locally-based community of support and power.

About Us

MOSAIC began in May of 1996 at the United Methodist Student Forum in Oklahoma City. A group of college student participants were aggrieved by the decision of the Forum not to encourage the national church assembly to strike homophobic language from church law. In response, several students gathered to create a national student coalition and network in support of ministry inclusive of all people.

MOSAIC is an extension ministry of the Reconciling Ministries Network. We are comprised of students, seminarians, and young adults who affirm all sexual orientations and gender identities as gifts of God.

We commit ourselves to:
1. strengthening communities and relationships through acts of reconciliation and healing in the name of Christ.
2. Providing resources to assist United Methodist ministries in their efforts for inclusiveness.
3. Advocating for full participation of persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities within the life and leadership of the United Methodist Church.

We seek to create change in Church policies and practices which are exclusionary of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, their families, and their allies. By being a grassroots movement, we seek to live out Christ's message of inclusiveness in our churches, schools, and daily lives. As well, we seek to be a presence at various events that attract young United Methodists, as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender persons and their allies. As well, we intend to be a strong presence at Annual (regional), Jurisdictional, and General Conferences of the United Methodist denomination.
