RIGHT NOW (March 2012), MOSAIC is recruiting artists, performers, volunteers, leaders, and others to help with our visibility, actions and work for the 2012 United Methodist General Conference.
MOSAIC is a part of the Love of God and Neighbor Coalition, and you can learn more about our work at www.gc12.org. You can also get involved with the planning or attend General Conference by emailing us!
MOSAIC began in May of 1996 at the United Methodist Student Forum in Oklahoma City. A group of college student participants were aggrieved by the decision of the Forum not to encourage the national church assembly to strike homophobic language from church law. In response, several students gathered to create a national student coalition and network in support of ministry inclusive of all people.
MOSAIC is an extension ministry of the Reconciling Ministries Network. We are comprised of students, seminarians, and young adults who affirm all sexual orientations and gender identities as gifts of God.
We commit ourselves to:
We seek to create change in Church policies and practices which are exclusionary of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, their families, and their allies. By being a grassroots movement, we seek to live out Christ’s message of inclusiveness in our churches, schools, and daily lives. As well, we seek to be a presence at various events that attract young United Methodists, as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender persons and their allies. As well, we intend to be a strong presence at Annual (regional), Jurisdictional, and General Conferences of the United Methodist denomination.
