General Conference

Love Your Neighbor

United Methodists from across our connexion will engage in Holy Conferencing with General Conference delegates. We seek to obey Jesus’ command to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31) by telling our stories and building relationships with United Methodists from every walk of life and theological position. Through our statement “For the Love of God and Neighbor” we proclaim to the church that we humbly accept God’s gift of our own diverse humanity.

Action Items:

These “End Discrimination” basic legislation templates are guides for your annual conference action and adoption.  They are prepared in the format required by the General Conference.   They must be submitted individually.  They are in one document here for your convenience. RMN-GC-2012-Templates

The General Conference of The United Methodist Church meets once every four years to vote upon the policies and “laws” of the church.  In most cases, a simple majority vote is needed to make much needed changes.  The next General Conference will meet in Tampa, Florida April 25 through May 4, 2012.

  • mobilize volunteers to witness to delegates personally and publicly for equality

RMN not only works at the General Conference, but also throughout the four years in between to advance equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons. Regional teams in annual conferences are equipped to provide local witness, to put forward changes in legislation and to affect the election of delegates. Each annual conference votes to elect delegates as their voting representatives for General Conference.
