Reconciling Ministries Network

Annual Conference

Annual Conference

An annual conference is a regional group of United Methodists.  In the United States an annual conference may be part of a state, the same as a state, or more than one state.  It depends on the population of United Methodists in those regions.  To find out which annual conference you are a part of click here (Annual Conference).

Annual Conference Teams (ACT) creatively respond to your local setting and may offer networking events, retreats, seminars, coaching for churches in the reconciling process, and organized opportunities to be visible and work for change at the annual conference.

Action Items:

These “End Discrimination” basic legislation templates are guides for your annual conference action and adoption.  They are prepared in the format required by the General Conference.   They must be submitted individually.  They are in one document here for your convenience. RMN-GC-2012-Templates

There are several ways to get involved:

First, find out what is already going on! If you haven’t yet, sign up as a Reconciling United Methodist, you will get updates through Flashnet and regional alerts on what is happening in your annual conference and others.

Second, Contact your Annual Conference Coordinator.

Third, plan to participate or to help organize others for a Believe Out Loud booth at your annual conference and/or Believe Out Loud gatherings within your annual conference.

Fourth, get involved with your district programs. A district is a smaller regional group within an annual conference.  Here are some concrete suggestions:

  • Get involved with a variety of conference activities, show genuine interest and calling to the ministries of the conference. Raise Reconciling concerns whenever it is fitting, when wider welcome is appropriate.
  • Consider becoming a lay delegate to represent your congregation at the Annual Conference. If your congregation is not changing their representatives, ask how “equalization” delegates are assigned in your district ~ volunteer. You could get to cast your own vote for change!  Talk with other delegates about your vision for an inclusive church.

Called to Witness: Believe Out Loud

Called to Witness is a five year strategic plan to equip, encourage and empower Reconciling volunteers within and across Annual Conferences as they build relationships with one another and across ideological and theological divides. Called to Witness understands that people don’t change their minds, until they know people’s stories. By reaching out and building relationships, we will create change one person at a time!

This year RMN is in the third phase of Called to Witness campaign, entitled: Believe Out Loud.
